The conference on "The Impact of the Global Financial Crisis on the Environment, Energy and Sustainable Development" organized by Ahlia University in collaboration with World Association for Sustainable Development (WASD) is yet another step in this direction. WASD is a global forum that brings people from across the world onto one platform to discuss issues relating to science and technology management that impact the world sustainable development."

Bahrain is now standing on the verge of getting integrated into global research and provide an important window of opportunity to the academic community in the Gulf region to participate in research. Particularly researchers and academia in Bahrain will have a leading role to play in global research which was a long cherished dream for the researchers".

The effort is to explore global viewpoints and the latest thinking about the ways in which the current global financial crisis is likely to affect the sustainable development process, particularly in developing countries. "The aim is to address growing concerns about the impact of this downturn on other global issues such as deteriorating environmental conditions, energy, obesity and climate change," said Professor Allam Ahmed President of WASD and the Conference Chairman. "The Conference aims to provide a stimulus for knowledge exchange focusing on the critical issues and also examine the relationship between these issues to reach a consensus for a better future. It also provides a framework for an understanding based on international, institutional and intellectual perspectives," he added.

Prof. Abdulla Y. Al-Hawaj added "Ahlia University welcomes all the delegates who are participating in the conference". He further praised the efforts of Dr. Allam Ahmed of WASD and Ahlia University team assigned to organize the conference.
