Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed visits Dubai Municipality

Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, paid a visit to Dubai Municipality where he was briefed on the activities and projects of the Municipality in the field of infrastructure and preserving the environment and its role in meeting the city's service needs.
Sheikh Majid was received by Eng. Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality along with Eng. Mohammed Abdulkareem Julfar, Assistant Director General for Finance and Properties Sector, Obaid Salem Al Shamsi, Assistant Director General for Administrative and Services Affairs, Eng. Essa Al Maidour, Assistant Director General for Planning and Engineering Sector, Eng. Abdullah Raffia, Assistant Director General for Environment and Public Health Services, Salem bin Mesmar, Assistant Director General for Health, Safety and Environment Monitoring Sector, Mohammed Mashroom, Director of Survey Department, and Khalid Mohammed Badri, Director of Corporate Marketing and Relations Department.
Lootah gave a presentation on the projected growth of Dubai urban area until 2020, development of strategic planning in Dubai Municipality, strategic objectives of the Municipality (2007-2011), major projects that contribute to the achievement of strategic objectives, major achievements of the civic body, an overview of the Municipality and its organizational units, number of agreements signed by the Municipality with other cities, Municipality e-services, total income, number of awards received by the Municipality during its service to the city of Dubai, and the size of employment and the budget with the Department.
Lootah also briefed him on the present and future structural plan of the city of Dubai, explaining the statistics and studies on population, and the projected development of the city and its territory with an indication on the long-standing projects and land uses in the Emirate of Dubai, and projects to renovate historic buildings.
In addition to that Sheikh Majid was also presented a brief on the tracts of land, the size of populated areas, land utilized for population within the overall area of the city of Dubai, plans to increase green areas in the Emirate of Dubai, the most important public service projects like the Central Library and Olympic Swimming Pool, Sheikh Hamdan Awards, Religious Institute project, Auto Market, and the areas of development in the Central Business District.
He was also explained the ratio and volume of household waste and the role of the Municipality in addressing this phenomenon through projects such as Waste to Energy Project and Waste Separation Plant, Tyre Development Project, Hazardous Waste Treatment Plant, sewage projects, and projects of residential parks and natural reserves.
Lootah briefed Sheikh Majid on the green building project of Dubai Municipality, which endeavours to implement it on the building in the Emirate of Dubai. He also explained the high temperatures in the city's buildings due to the spread of urban growth in the city and other reasons that have contributed in raising the temperature.
Lootah said the Municipality has been keen to develop this new system which is applied in many developed cities in various parts of the world, and which will contribute to reducing the temperature in the Emirate of Dubai.
In addition to that Lootah also gave a presentation on the Green Environment project of the Emirate of Dubai, through which the Municipality aims to reduce the temperature in the city and its energy consumption, cut greenhouse gas emissions polluting the atmosphere, absorb carbon dioxide that causes global warming, take advantage of the water from air conditioners, and beautify the buildings.
The presentation also covered projects that the civic body intends to implement in this area such as beautification of the streets along side the tracks the metro, using environment-friendly experiences and mechanisms, pedestrian walkways, improving the urban environment, and greening and cultivating the desert environment and protected areas. Sheikh Majid was also presented a study of the thermal regions of the Emirate of Dubai.
Sheikh Majid also visited the plans archive in the Municipality and was briefed on the archiving system of the plans of the land in the Emirate of Dubai. He was explained the archiving operation of land information provided by the system, as that has a full database of all lands in the Emirate of Dubai.
He was briefed on the Contact Centre of the Municipality, its services and the volume of communications received by the Centre. Sheikh Majid also toured the Customer Service Centre, where he was briefed on the services and facilities provided by the Centre.
He was also briefed on the Green Roof System of the Municipality building and was shown the experimental model of the system, explaining the contents of the system, method of work and advantages achieved by the preservation of the environment and reducing the temperature and enhancing the overall atmosphere of the city.
Sheikh Majid also visited the Projects Exhibition of the Municipality and was briefed on the models and photos that are displayed there, which included projects of markets, environmental conservation, parks and also a model of the old city of Dubai.
