The awards aim to celebrate bold leaders and projects that motivate and inspire industry peers and colleagues. Abu Dhabi International Airport has been recognised for its exceptional growth supported by its second-to-none dedication to service, safety and security, coupled with a visionary development master plan to meet future demand in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the United Arab Emirates.

In this regard, George Karamanos, Vice President of Corporate Marketing and Communication at ADAC, stated: "ADAC is honoured to receive this award, and we take great pride in our work at Abu Dhabi International Airport. We give priority for our customers, airlines and passengers, and have made great strides in ensuring they receive the fast and efficient services we promise them".

"At the same time, we are making significant progress with our airport expansion and redevelopment, and this year we have increased capacity by five million passengers per year with the addition of our state of the art Terminal 3. Not only that, but we have completed the development work on our new second runway, which was operational in October 2008, and are in process to complete the construction of a new Air Traffic Control Tower by the end of 2009. These developments are important in their own right, but in a few years time they will also provide the supporting infrastructure for our iconic new Midfield Terminal Complex which will increase our capacity to more than 20 million passengers per year", Karamanos concluded.

Over the past year, Abu Dhabi Airports Company has been marketing its high standard of facilities and services, and has been successful in attracting several new airlines whilst maintaining high levels of passenger comfort and care. Abu Dhabi International Airport has also seen a number of improvements in the facilities it provides to its passengers, including introducing a number of common use self service kiosks and free WI-FI and internet stations.

About Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC):

Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) is a public joint-stock company wholly owned by the Abu Dhabi Government. It was incorporated by Amiri Decree number 5, issued on 4 March 2006, to spearhead the development of the Emirate's aviation infrastructure.

In September 2006, ADAC took over responsibility for the operation and management of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain international Airports. In 2008, ADAC added Al Bateen private jet airport, formerly Al Bateen military airbase, and Sir Bani Yas and Delma Island Airports to its portfolio. These airports all serve different segments of the marketplace and help contribute to Abu Dhabi's development as a destination for both business and leisure tourism.

Currently under way is the large scale AED 25 (USD6.8) billion re-development and expansion of Abu Dhabi International Airport designed to increase the overall capacity of the airport to more than 20 million passengers per year. As part of this redevelopment, a second runway and a third terminal have been completed. A new ATC tower and Midfield Terminal Complex will complete the redevelopment within the next few years.
