Inmarsat, the provider of global mobile satellite communications services, has been awarded the 'Samena Award' for 'Best Satellite Provider' at this year's Samena 2009 Telecommunications Council meeting. The awards are based on, among other criteria, a recognition of leadership and astute commercial operation within the South Asia, Middle East and North Africa region.

Accepting the award, Samer Halawi, Vice President of Strategic Corporate Development at Inmarsat, said:

"We are honored to accept the award for Best Satellite Provider and would like to take the opportunity to thank our industry peers, and all our regional partners, for their support and commitment to Inmarsat. They truly are a highly-valued extension of our company."

The Samena Awards recognized regional players, including Samena members, associates and prospects, for their outstanding efforts in expanding telecommunications services and addressing the concerns and needs of the telecom sector in the Samena region and beyond.

As last year, the awards programme was based on rigorous voting. This year, however, external consultancy by leading market research firms and other business intelligence groups was incorporated to help achieve a more in-depth and thoroughly-assessed voting outcome.

The Award Selection Committee comprised well-known individuals and C-level or senior executives at leading organizations, including regulatory bodies, telecom operators, consultative firms and others.
