Alcatel-Lucent shares four critical determinants for FTTx implementation at FTTH Middle East Conference

- PRESS RELEASE
At the occasion of the first Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) Middle East Conference, taking place in Amman (Jordan) on November 10th and 11th, Alcatel-Lucent will be sharing four critical determinants for successfully deploying fiber-based access networks.
Being the worldwide leader in fixed broadband access, Alcatel-Lucent understands that each service provider's FTTx strategy is actually a highly individualized blend of measures - carefully tailored to local circumstances. Concretely, four factors stand out as the most critical determinants for successfully engaging in fiber deployments:
• A nationwide fiber strategy with a clear regulatory framework is needed to encourage fair competition and stimulate mass FTTx adoption - even in underserved areas;
• Local marketing efforts and actual deployments must go hand-in-hand to secure high take rates. As a matter of fact, recent studies have unveiled an FTTx dilemma: high user satisfaction among fiber users, but low awareness of FTTx benefits among the general public;
• A pragmatic FTTx deployment approach is necessary in an environment of financial turmoil. It is all about bringing "fiber to the most economical point" - a concrete example of which would be to deploy 2.5G GPON today and overlay 10G GPON as the time is right... This is a strategy that is fully supported by Alcatel-Lucent's FTTx family of products;
• The access network must be leveraged to benefit from additional applications such as mobile backhaul and Ethernet Business Access - to dramatically reduce total cost of ownership (TCO).
Thomas Kallstenius, Director Product Marketing at Alcatel-Lucent, will discuss on these four key factors in much greater detail during the conference session "Voice of the Industry" - which has been scheduled on November 11th from 11h00 till 13h00 local time.
"As a leading telecom player, we feel obliged to provide the attendees to this first FTTH Middle East Conference with as much as good advice as possible," said Nicolat Bouverot, heading Alcatel-Lucent's Middle East activities. "With more than 95 FTTH projects around the world, over 80 of which are with GPON, we are able to help service providers, governments and utilities/municipalities successfully meet their high-capacity network objectives."
In Gartner's latest FTTH Magic Quadrant assessment, Alcatel-Lucent was positioned in the leaders quadrant for the fiber-to-the-home space. Come and visit us at booth 5G, where our experts will be available to answer any of your questions.
