Furthering its commitment to raising public awareness around the issue of copyright infringement, Kitab will co-host a panel discussion on 'The basics of copyright and how they apply to the publishing industry in the UAE'. Industry heavy-weights appearing alongside Kitab on the panel will include The Publishers Association, UK, Emirates Publishers Association, the Ministry of Economics, Sharjah Customs, the Arabian Anti-Piracy Alliance and Khasawneh & Associates.

His Excellency Jumaa Al Qubaisi, Director of the National Library and the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, said:

"Protecting intellectual property and preventing copyright infringement requires a joined-up approach from all key stakeholders. That means working across government, across Emirates and across industries to pull together and share best practices and knowledge. The 28th Sharjah International Book Fair and the panel discussion this week provides a solid platform to synergise with all the stakeholders."

Monika Krauss, General Manager of Kitab, said: "The panel at the 28th Sharjah International Book Fair this week provides Kitab with another forum to raise awareness around the issue of copyright infringement in the publishing industry ahead of the 7th IPA Copyright Symposium in Abu Dhabi in February 2010 that will bring together local and international industry experts to discuss policy and action in this important field."

The panel discussion, entitled "The basics of copyright and how they apply to the publishing industry in the UAE" will be held on the 12th November at 8pm at the 28th Sharjah International Book Fair at the Sharjah Expo Centre.
