BUiD's MSc in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution, which will begin accepting applications from November 2009 for the February 2010 intake, is designed for practising lawyers, engineers, architects, surveyors and those in other relevant disciplines.

"The construction industry in the Middle East is growing at unprecedented levels, and in today's economic climate, there is an essential need for experts in the related fields,"

said Professor Abdullah Alshamsi, Vice-Chancellor, The British University in Dubai.

"With the support of the Dubai Courts and leading construction and law organisations, our new MSc in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution will develop combined expertise in law and construction, further developing the local regional talent and providing the necessary knowledge required as a complement to the industry's rapid development," he added.

At the launch, Professor Abdullah Alshamsi, Vice-Chancellor, The British University in Dubai, signed a MOU with H.E. Dr. Ahmed Bin Hazim Director General of Dubai Courts, for the future development of the nation's legal expertise and to contribute to related professional development in the UAE.

H.E. Dr. Ahmed Bin Hazim Director General of Dubai Courts praised the role of BUiD in building a new generation of higher level education and culture.

"Dubai Courts support such initiatives for their substantial benefits to all parties, and this cooperation is not our first with premier educational organizations, nor will it be the last," he said.

The new programme is offered in association with the Centre of Construction Law and Dispute Resolution at King's College London, one of the top 25 universities in the world (The Times Higher Education 2007), and the fourth oldest in England. The MSc is also accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

The MSc programme will include foundation modules in law for non-lawyers and construction for lawyers, and supports the career development of students within both private and public sector organisations that are engaged in infrastructure and building projects. It ensures that students are familiar with basic construction technology, legal knowledge and techniques necessary to understand current theory and practice in construction law and dispute resolution.

Modules of the programme include an introduction to law and construction, Construction Law I and II, Arbitration and Construction, and Dispute Resolution and Construction. Both the programmes and the MOU represent a strong commitment to the highest level of academic and professional education in the law, with integrated credibility assured through the credentials of BuiD's local, regional and global partners.
