Acer Computer is the notebook vendor of choice for Middle East and Africa (MEA) region, according to research from analyst house Gartner, positioning the IT vendor as the market leader with a 30.1% market share, for the second quarter of 2009.

Gartner's latest figures show that, in the notebook sector of the MEA IT market, Acer Computer, the world's third largest PC and second largest notebook vendor, is the preferred brand both for consumers and business users.

"MEA is one of the key global growth markets for Acer. The demand for mobility products is high, and our products have been very well received in the market. Customers respect the Acer brand, because it gives them better value."

said Krishna Murthy, Managing Director for Acer Computer Middle East and Africa (MEA).

Acer has posted impressive figures across the Middle East region. In the region's largest market, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Acer is still the market leader for notebooks with a market share of 31.3%.

In the UAE, Acer is the number one vendor for notebooks with a market share of 33.2%. Overall, for desktops and notebooks in the UAE, the IT vendor also holds the number one position with a 29.3% market share.

In other Middle East markets like Egypt, Acer has a 32% market share for notebooks, only 0.5% off from the top spot.

In South Africa, Acer holds the number two spot for notebooks and desktops with a market share of 13.5%. For notebooks, Acer is the number two vendor with a market share of 25.3% for Q2 of 2009.

"We are extremely pleased to have consolidated our position as a leading IT vendor for the region," added Murthy.

With its strong brand image and a successful multi brand strategy, Acer has made continuous gains in the IT market for the Middle East region. The IT vendor looks set to consolidate, if not improve on, figures it has posted for the second quarter of 2009.
