Premier Wen Jiabao interacted with trainees at the facility, as well as those from Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa via state-of-the-art video conferencing facilities at the training center. They had an informal discussion on the development and potential of the telecommunications industry in Africa.
"We started operations in Egypt since 1998 and it is our delight and honor that His Excellency Wen Jiabao took the time to visit our new Training Center. This visit by our Premier underlines Huawei's strong presence in Egypt, and further confirms our commitment to both Egypt and the African continent,"
said Ding Shaohua, President of Huawei Middle East & North Africa.
Mr. Ding also shared some plans on future expansion and investment opportunities in Egypt with Premier Wen Jiabao at the visit.
Huawei has been offering its technical expertise to African carriers for more than 10 years. The company's fixed assets investment in Africa over the past decade has exceeded $1.5bn.
Huawei is now one of the top three telecommunications equipment providers in Africa. To date, Huawei has six training centers in Africa, providing training to 12,000 students each year who turn out engage in and contribute to the local telecommunications industry upon training.
