Dubai Municipality forms advisory committee for certificates and product compliance marks system

Eng. Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality, has issued an administrative decision to form an advisory committee for the granting of certificates and product compliance marks according to the best global practices applicable in this area and fulfilling the requirements of the International Standard ISO Guide 65 certificates product compliance marks granting bodies.

The Committee aims to ensure fairness and impartiality required in providing certification and transparency in dealing with the customers of the industrial sector products that are subjected to the compliance marks system as per the evaluation of factories. This is in line with the vision of Dubai Central Laboratory to be the top product confidence vendor at the global level.

The committee headed by Eng. Hawa Abdullah Bastaki, Director of Dubai Central Laboratory Department has four members from the public and private sectors represented by manufacturers/suppliers, consumers/users, academia, and government legislative bodies.

Bastaki, who chaired the first meeting of the Committee, held in Dubai Central Laboratory, stressed about the relevance and objectives of its formation and the vital and effective role each of the members have as they represent different segments of the public and private sectors.

Eng. Amin Ahmed, Head of Inspection and Certification Section, gave a presentation on the rationale for creating the system of granting compliance marks and the structure of the system.

The meeting was attended by Juma Al Mansouri, Acting Director of Sales and Marketing, Emirates Steel Industries, representing the manufacturers/suppliers, Hisham Ashour, Senior Resident Engineer, Parsons Consultants, representing the consumers/users, Prof. Dr. Samerai, Senior Consultant, Sahara Group, representing academia, and Eng. Ahmed Al Badwawi, Head of Construction Research and Studies Unit in the Buildings Department in Dubai Municipality, representing the legislative bodies of government.
