'Knowledge Without Borders' to purchase 65,000 books from Sharjah International Book Fair 2009

The "Knowledge Without Borders" (KWB) project will have an extensive participation at the upcoming 'Sharjah International Book Fair 2009' which will run from November 11-21 at Sharjah Expo Centre. The organizational committee of the project has announced that it will purchase around 65,000 books from the exhibition in order to distribute them to Sharjah families by the start of 2009.
Commenting on the participation, Rashid Al Kous, Manager of Cultural Programs said: "The Sharjah International Book Fair 2009' is one of the most important events that highlight the rich culture of Sharjah, it is considered an annual meeting place for the industry's experts including publishers, booksellers, agents, film producers and authors, Through our extensive participation, we hope to extend the rich heritage of Sharjah - the cultural capital of the region, together with our vision of a completely literate and educated society to the world at large.
"Since the inception of this landmark project, we have successfully participated and generated great interest from the worldwide community at various venues including
Frankfurt, London, New York, Tokyo, Egypt, and we are looking to a successful participation in the upcoming event" added Al Kous.
"The 'Knowledge Without Borders' project that is sponsored by the Emirate of Sharjah, the cultural capital, comes as a generous initiative from H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. As members of the organizing committee, we are committed towards projecting this unique initiative to the world at large through the participation of international exhibitions," concluded Al Kous.
'Knowledge Without Borders', a Sharjah Government initiative hopes to nurture the habit of reading and extend knowledge among UAE national families in the emirate of Sharjah. The organization targets to provide well designed book libraries to around 42,000 families. By the end of the project the vision is to create a fully literate community rich in learning. By establishing a rich home library in every house in the Emirate of Sharjah, comprising of a series of diverse and useful books that meet the interests of all family members, the project concentrates on creating the awareness on the importance of reading.
Sharjah International Book Fair 2009 is organized under the guidance and patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. The Department of Culture & Information of Sharjah Government has been organizing International Book Fair in Sharjah since 1982, a 10 day annual event that bridges cultures in one educational place, showcasing books of more than 750 publishers from nearly 42 nations, with average 400,000 visitors visiting yearly. Sharjah International Book Fair gained an international honorable reputation and built a fabulous image among many world book fairs. This event is considered the biggest memorable event in Sharjah.
