Diyar Al Muharraq reveals 3 km2 of land ready for access
- Bahrain: Wednesday, November 11 - 2009 at 11:23
- PRESS RELEASE
Diyar Al Muharraq, one of Bahrain's biggest mixed-use residential urban developments, and Diamond Sponsor of this year's Urban Waterfronts Conference 2009, announced that 3km2 of land of the project's 12km2 total area is ready for access and building works to commence.
The conference attracted more than 200 delegates from 27 countries representing five continents who got the unique opportunity to learn from the company's vast expertise on the challenging aspects of waterfront development, particularly mega-projects on the scale of Diyar Al Muharraq.
The fully self-contained city will feature 40 kilometers of new coastline with a combination of strategically located sea front properties and facilities, most of which are accessible to all residents and visitors. These include Ras Raya Harbor, a dedicated fishing port to serve the local fishermen of the area, as well as a carefully planned network of water canals, two marinas, an extensive promenade, cafes and restaurants, sandy beaches, water taxis, and a waterfront mall that will be the largest mall in Bahrain.
The presentation also focused on how the project's development team have created developable land at a safe reclamation level, and taken measures to ensure the flexibility of the landform, allowing uniform settlement to facilitate future development.
Diyar Al Muharraq also highlighted its ongoing partnerships with leading international and local associations such as the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) to promote and improve environmental impact assessment (EIA) practices throughout the region and ensure the environmental sustainability of the project.
Diyar Al Muharraq's development team also collaborated closely since the project's conception with engineering consultancy firm Scott Wilson to account for such factors as extreme sea levels, climate change, visual appeal of revetments and access to water, all with a long term view of maintaining the quality level of public amenities.
Diyar Al Muharraq is setting a benchmark in urban development by offering reasonably priced housing available across all income groups. It will provide a cohesive mix of residential and commercial properties with housing opportunities for over 120,000 people in around 30,000 housing units.
Diyar Al Muharraq also recently sponsored Bahrain International Property Exhibition (Bipex) 2009, and displays an impressive model of the project for public view at Bahrain's City Centre Mall.
