"Delegates will be exposed to a variety of discussions and debates leading to the Summit Declaration and plan of action for the following year."
The BOMU CEO went on to add, "The Summit is a time to celebrate Oman's achievements and to reflect on the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead. Today, Oman is an economically prosperous and vibrant nation. Yet, as we evolve, we face new challenges. In this regard, the Summit offers Oman-based youth an unprecedented opportunity to discuss Oman 'on the move'. Indeed, the Summit will be a moment to look ahead at the challenges which will define the larger parts of the lives of the young people of today."
Summit participants will be aged 14 - 21 and drawn from public and private Oman-based schools and colleges. The three-day agenda will cover the environment, urban planning, innovation and the arts.
"We've created the Summit for young people who are dedicated to making positive change happen in their communities and in the world," suggests Sayyid Faisal.
"From our research, a major concern for young people is the immediate reduction of carbon emissions. Time's ticking for us to take action to safeguard our climate. Led by staff from Shell, Oman Botanic Garden, Omran and GUTech the Summit will discuss investing in clean and renewable energy, creating effective green jobs, and demonstrating a commitment to managing a sustainable and clean economy," says BOMU's Alya Al Hosni and Summit Project Manager.
"It's not enough for us to identify our most pressing individual issues, we must take the lead and work collaboratively to propose solutions and then obtain the resources needed to implement those solutions. We believe the 1st Muscat Youth Summit will be a key catalyst in this process," concluded Al Hosni.
