The Open Day began with a welcome speech by DWC Director Dr. Howard Reed and the DWC 20th anniversary video presentation. Following, the students had a full day of workshops held by each of the DWC academic departments - Applied Communications, Business, Education, Health Science and Information Technology. Workshops were hands on and introduced the various programs and project-based learning to high school students. DWC students and staff members were on hand to give a campus tour, including DWC world-class facilities such as the gym, library and cafeteria, as well as answer questions on degree program offerings and campus life.
Starting this year, DWC began offering full-time Bachelor programs in all its academic departments, instead of the higher diploma, which was previously the case. Nevertheless, students who choose to, will still be able to exit the specialization program in year three and get a higher diploma certificate. DWC also introduced three new Bachelor programs in Tourism and Event Management, Corporate Communications and Biomedical Engineering.
Dr. Behjat Al Yousuf, DWC Associate Director, stated, "The purpose of the Open Day is not only for the high school students to observe the facilities, programs and campus, but for them to interact with current students, ask as many questions, and witness the spirit, loyalty, and passion of both DWC faculty and staff."
Dr. Behjat added:
"We hope to create a touch of unity and commonality between DWC faculty, as well as current and prospective students. For over 20 years, we have been an HCT flagship institution providing world-class education for women in the UAE, and we want to share our passion with the youth of this country who are at the brink of adulthood and who are looking for guidance as to choosing the right path for their career and life in general."
DWC Student Parliament assisted in organizing the successful event. Lubna Al Mahmoud, member of DWC Student Parliament, commented that this is a great opportunity for prospective students to know more about the college programs and activities.
"This allowed prospective students to speak with currently-enrolled students and to talk further with faculty regarding their career prospects."
Meetha Mosa, student in Dubai Modern Education School, was impressed with the state-of-the-art technology that DWC uses to educate students. "I have had a wonderful time here. I think I will study IT at DWC as the quality of education here seems to be very high," she said.
