QTA staff offered brochures and maps to acquaint passengers with Qatar and outline the various activities they could enjoy during their stay in the country. Passengers sipped Arabic coffee and nibbled on delicious dates while waiting for their day's adventure to begin.

Thomas, from Germany, said: "I am very happy to be here in Qatar. The weather is so pleasant and the people are so nice".

Another German passenger said: "We have received a very nice welcome to the country. I enjoy the Qatari and Arabic culture - from the local dress to the friendly people. I look forward to visiting all the sites today and am sure I will come back again."

Since easing the visa procedures earlier in the year, passengers have been able to start touring Qatar soon after disembarking. A variety of different activities were organized for the passengers. Some passengers enjoyed a half-day desert adventure, while others enjoyed a tour of the city including a visit to the Museum of Islamic Art, shopping at the Souq Waqif and strolling along the Corniche.

Qatar Tourism Authority looks forward to a busy cruise season. Three more ships are scheduled to arrive in Doha before the end of the year.

Mr.Ahmed Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Qatar Tourism Authority said:
"We expect many ships to call in Doha this season. In addition to extending the season beyond March, we have seen an increase in cruise companies coming to Doha - where in the past they came only once, now they have scheduled to come multiple times." Mr. Al Nuaimi continued: "The operators are pleased with the services they receive upon arrival, and the passengers are excited about visiting Qatar. We look forward to welcoming many more cruise ship visitors to Doha."
