Thrifty Car Rental announces extensive expansion activities in Oman
- Oman: Tuesday, November 17 - 2009 at 11:28
- PRESS RELEASE
Thrifty Car Rental, a subsidiary of Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group, Inc. (NYSE: DTG), today announced extensive expansion activities in Oman. In line with the rapid developments of the Sultanate, Thrifty Oman relocated their headquarters to the industrial area of Ghala. Thrifty also opened a new retail location in Al Kuwair, Muscat, to meet car rental demands within the city.
This will result in the employment contribution to the Travel & Tourism economy to rise from 76,000 jobs in 2009 to 133,000 jobs by 2019.
"We have identified multiple areas for growth in Oman, and have determined strategic locations that would contribute to our success in the Sultanate," said Mehdi Jaffer, Deputy Managing Director, Thrifty Car Rental - Oman. "Oman's ongoing developments in infrastructure, backed by the government and private investments, as well as political stability, have attracted business and leisure travelers, resulting in a noticeable surge in our business activity."
Jaffer continued, "Although profits are marginally down from last year, Thrifty Oman is thriving, and we are aggressively and strategically seeking business opportunities to bring our exemplary service to our clients in the Sultanate."
The purpose built headquarters in Oman is equipped to manage operations and administration for the six Thrifty branches across Oman. "We required more office space for staff and supplies in line with our rate of expansion," explained Jaffer "Ghala is an imminent location where a number of our existing and potential clients operate."
Thrifty Oman also added eight self-drive luxury cars to its fleet, including Mercedes S class, E class & BMW 7 series. "We wanted to give our customers the opportunity to experience a luxury ride at a lower price so removed the requirement for a chauffer," continued Jaffer.
Earlier this year, Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group MENA and Asia Pacific awarded Thrifty Oman 'Best Growing Franchisee in the Middle East' in recognition of its expansion within the Sultanate. Thrifty Oman maintains a large inventory of quality vehicles, as well as conveniently located outlets, to meet the automotive rental needs of tourists, business travelers and residents. Outlets can currently be found in Salalah, Sohar, Muscat, Al Qurum and Al Khuwair.
