Boeing inks deals with two Algerian carriers

Boeing has announced that it has received orders from two Algerian airlines for its 737-800 jets. The announced was made today at the Dubai Airshow, which has seen few orders from Middle East carriers. Air Algerie ordered seven of the planes, which brings its 737 fleet to 22. The airline's CEO, Abdelwahid Bouabdallah, said the new 737-800s will help reduce operating and maintenance costs. The other order was placed by Tassili Airlines, which signed a deal for four of the jets. The deal is Boeing's first with Tassili, which is a subsidiary of Algerian-government-owned Sonatrach Petroleum. The carrier said it will use the planes to transport employees and cargo between large Algerian cities and Sonatrach work sites.
