The Majid Al Futtaim mall emerged as the top winner from over 109 entries received from leading shopping centres spread across 10 countries in the Asia Pacific region.

The award recognises Bahrain City Centre's Grand Opening marketing and public relations campaign to promote the official launch of the Kingdom's first and biggest shopping, leisure and entertainment destination. The celebrations began with a spectacular VIP ribbon-cutting event presided over by HH Shaikh Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Crown Prince of Bahrain along with top Ministers and VIPs. A public grand opening extravaganza followed and continued over the following six months with the galleria being transformed into a virtual theatre to host seven major live entertainment acts.

Peter Samuel, Vice President - Asset Management at Majid Al Futtaim Properties, said:
"This international recognition is the first for Bahrain. The fact that we have achieved this honour with the grand opening is a reflection of world-class initiatives and campaigns that are still to come to Bahrain City Centre. The award is a testament to the global best practices applied to each and every aspect of the Centre right from the beginning. We are indeed extremely proud to be recognised at such a prestigious global platform."

Founded in 1957, ICSC is the premier global trade association of the shopping center industry. It recognizes the sector's most cutting-edge developments, innovative solutions and creative responses to market trends through its various awards honours. The Asia Shopping Centres Awards was introduced in 2008 to recognise the region which is home to so many of the 21st century's most dynamic retail trends.
