Nile University joins Intel's Middle East Energy Efficiency Research Center

Nile University signed today an agreement with Intel to join the Middle East Energy Efficiency Research Center (MER) for developing more energy efficient solutions. The agreement signing was attended by Eng. Taha Khalifa, Country Manager, Intel Egypt, Dr. Tawfik Arabi, Intel Senior Principal Engineer and Director of MER, Dr. Hazem Ezzat, VP of research at Nile University, and Dr. Yehea Ismail, Director of the Nano-electronics Integrated Systems Center at Nile University.

The MER was established by Intel Corporation last month in collaboration with the King Abdul-Aziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

"The Arab world has a wealth of talented engineers and innovators and we are confident that this energy efficiency research center will enable bright minds to research and develop useful solutions for the region. Our collaboration with Nile University is set to help the talent pool gain access to Intel's global knowledge and expertise,"

says Dr. Tawfik Rahal-Arabi, Intel Senior Principal Engineer and Director of MER.

The first of its kind in the Middle East, MER is set to attract more universities from all over the region. It will also play a pivotal role in the region's efforts to promote more efficient use of energy in technology devices through conducting and sharing research with leading universities across the Middle East. The program consists of conducting research at the participating institutions in the Middle East and at Intel as well as exchanging researchers. Several students and professors have already interned at Intel since last summer.

"For Nile University, the MER membership agreement is essential as it supports our vision of advancing scientific research in Egypt and the Middle East region," said Dr. Hazem Ezzat, VP of research at Nile University.

"Our aim is to ensure that we leverage the expertise of global leaders such as Intel for the benefit of our students and Egypt. The relation to Intel is extremely valuable in terms of student exposure to top-of-the-line technologies, working on cutting edge research with some of the top people in the world at Intel, and solving real problems relevant to industry," said Dr. Yehea Ismail, Director of the Nano-electronics Integrated Systems Center and Intel contact at Nile University.

Under this agreement Nile University will work jointly with KACST and Intel in the research and marks the second cooperation between Intel and Nile University , the first being Intel's Research Lab for Developing Micro- Electronics at Nile University's facilities, dedicated to new technology development.
