Greater Amman Municipality signs joint action plan between Astana and Amman

Mayor of Amman, Eng. Omar Al Maani, and Governor of Astana, Mr. Imangali Tasmagambetov, signed today (4/11/09) a joint action plan for the next two years between the municipalities of the two cities.

This action plan aims at activating the municipal cooperation agreement signed between the Municipality of Astana, capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Greater Amman Municipality (GAM).

Al Maani said, during the signing of the agreement, that GAM hopes to expand horizons of cooperation between the two cities through the exchange of experiences in different areas of the municipal services, and commended the rapid development realized in the city of Astana.

Al Maani explained that this plan will open the opportunity for knowledge and information exchange in variant domains such as, city planning and development, constructions, civilized development, management, public parks and gardens, urbanized roads' design, and walk sides for the pedestrians, in addition to sports training courses, business meetings and participation in tourist activities, fairs and forums.

The Governer of Astana congratulated Mayor of Amman for the centennial of the first city council of Amman, pointing out the interest of his city to make use of the municipal work expertise in Amman, which is extended for 100 years ago.

He expressed his hope that this agreement will bolster the relationship and enhance cooperation fields between the two cities.

The plan ensures continuity of cooperation between the municipalities of Amman and Astana, through delegations exchange, constant interaction between architects and city planners, as well as swapping creative teams of the two cities.

The plan also includes studying the best policies used in Amman related to traffic, public safety, public transportation, not to forget the application of the modern intelligent techniques in designs and infrastructure maintenance of the public transportation.

Memorial plaques were exchanged during the signature ceremony which some officials from Astana Municipality and GAM attended.
