Right from day one, the 2009 Etisalat-Sharjah Water Festival swept through the emirate with "Waves of Fun", promising a thrilling ride, and looking set to top all previous editions. The opening day of the annual event, which takes place at Sharjah's Al Majaz Park, opposite Khalid Lagoon, attracted over 60,000 visitors who came to experience the Festival's fun and entertainment activities and events.

The Festival kicked off with a carnival celebration of the UAE National Day, and visitors from all over the UAE, including tourists, citizens and residents, enjoyed numerous attractions and activities, including the Sesame Street show and fireworks, while children flocked to Mouj Land to experience a world of educational fun as they celebrated Mouj's third anniversary. The evening culminated in a once-off performance from internationally acclaimed Italian I Cameristi Triestini, conducted by Maestro Fabio Nossal.

H.E. Mohamed A. Al Noman, Director General of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA), which is responsible for organizing the annual event, and Head of the Etisalat-Sharjah Water Festival organizing committee, said that the Festival's strong opening motivated the team to work even harder to make the event successful and to present visitors with quality entertainment.

"We are proud to have organized the Etisalat-Sharjah Water Festival, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, with kind support of H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qassimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and we are delighted to be able to offer Festival visitors such a wide variety of world-class entertainment," said Al Noman.

The Festival was officially opened by H.E. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qassimi, SCTDA Chairman. Also in attendance were H.E. Abdullah Al Owais, Director of the Sharjah Department of Culture & Information, Col. Hamid Mohammed Al Hudaidi, Sharjah's Chief of Police, and H.E.
