Shelby SuperCars aims for 'world's fastest production electric car' with 'Ultimate Aero EV'

  • PRESS RELEASE

Shelby SuperCars (SSC), an American supercar company and the creator of the 'Ultimate Aero', has announced plans to develop its first electric production supercar, the 'Ultimate Aero EV', following the launch of its revolutionary All-Electric Scalable Powertrain (AESP).

The company revealed that it will incorporate its AESP into the '2010 Ultimate Aero', which it has deemed the perfect high visibility outlet to demonstrate the capabilities of its new 'green' powertrain. SSC is currently participating at the 'Dubai International Motor Show 2009' along with its exclusive distributor Ultimate Motors, one of the leading distributors of exotic and luxury sports cars in the GCC, who is confident that the new electric supercar will be met with significant interest in the Middle East amidst growing calls for environmental awareness in the region. SSC is expecting to roll out its first full-scale, pre-production 'Ultimate Aero EV' in 2010 with a view towards pursuing the title of 'World's Fastest Production Electric Car'.

According to a company statement, the 'Ultimate Aero EV' is set to prove that electric-powered vehicles not only match but also provide more linear power (electric motors have 100% torque at 0 RPM) and overall performance than internal combustion cars. Slated to utilise a twin motor AESP, the 'Ultimate Aero EV' is expected to produce an astounding 1000 BHP and 800 lb-ft of torque, which will enable it to sprint from rest to 100 km/h in a mere 2.5 seconds, and reach a top speed of 334 km/h (208 mph). The supercar will also have a three-speed automatic transmission, which can achieve electronically controlled shift times of 0.24 seconds by transferring the power to the supercar's wheels.

"A unique mindset and approach to innovating groundbreaking technology is a fundamental necessity in order to be a viable entity in the supercar market. Being the producer of the world's benchmark supercar, it was logical to broaden SSC's scope to developing cutting edge 'green' technologies. The philosophical and problem solving synergies between the 'green' and supercar markets are strikingly identical and have led us to the next breakthrough in automotive technology."

said Jerod Shelby, President and CEO of Shelby SuperCars.

In addition, SSC's Nanotechnology Rechargeable Lithium Battery pack has a 200 mile range on a single charge and is rechargeable on a standard 110 outlet through the proprietary 'Charge on the Run' onboard charging system. Light weight at a mere 175 lbs, which is a fraction of the weight of a standard combustion, the AESP also boasts of liquid cooling systems, allowing it to run for extended periods of time at peak performance with no overheating issues. Further, it is also very compact, measuring 1/18 the space of a standard engine and thereby providing significant increase in cargo room.

"The 'Ultimate Aero EV' is based on the 'green' concept, and will be powered by a revolutionary eco-friendly battery and electric Powertrain technology, thereby underlining SSC's superiority in developing and infusing the most breakthrough technologies in its supercars. With the 'Ultimate Aero EV' slated to deliver a pollution-free, engineering marvel with an exotic supercar exterior, we are confident that 'Ultimate Aero EV' will open up a new category of luxury supercars, which has a tremendous potential to gain a steady following within the regional market," concluded Nasser Al Hai, President, Ultimate Motors.

The AESP has been developed by SSC Green Inc, the green division of SSC. The cost effective, mass-producible powertrain is a compact and power dense electric motor. It offers outputs of up to 500 BHP in a single motor (100 BHP - 500 BHP) and twin motor (501 BHP - 1000 BHP) configurations. In addition to its role in the 'Ultimate Aero EV', AESP packaged solutions will be made available to variety of applications ranging from 200 horsepower for economy and midsize cars, to 500 horsepower for light trucks and SUVs, and up to 1,000 horsepower for delivery trucks, heavy-duty equipment, buses and military vehicles.
