Johnson Controls, Inc. , the global leader in energy efficiency and sustainability, has further stressed that the World and the Middle East should focus on energy efficiency to aggressively address environmental challenges. The company strongly believes that - improving energy efficiency is the first and foremost step towards achieving sustainability in buildings and organizations across the globe.

Johnson Controls has provided its integrated building management and security solutions with remote monitoring facilities to some of the most prestigious projects in the region such as the Burj Dubai, Bahrain Financial Harbour, the Pearl Qatar and the Capital Plaza project in Abu Dhabi amongst others. The company has signed the Copenhagen Communiqué and participated in the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen that concluded two days ago.

Magdy A. Mekky, Vice President & Managing Director, Middle East, said:
"When people ask us about sustainability, we tell them it means getting the most out of every single unit of energy, water, materials and resources used in buildings, both commercial and residential. Energy efficiency helps control rising energy costs, reduces environmental footprints, and increases the value and competitiveness of buildings. Johnson Controls is a global leader in building efficiency solutions that reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gases."

Johnson Controls currently manages $1bn of annual energy spend and monitors 63 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions each year for 5,000 buildings located in 88 countries. Over the last eight years, the company's system has captured more than 8,000 energy and cost savings initiatives - nearly half of which were completed resulting in savings of $1bn and 6.2 million metric tons of CO2 or the equivalent.

Johnson Controls leads the Middle East market in the supply of integrated solutions that include YORK HVAC equipment, METASYS Building Management Systems and Security and Fire Alarm systems. Johnson Controls has to its credit several prestigious projects such as the Pearl Qatar (worlds largest district cooling plant in terms of tons of refrigeration), the Bahrain Bay project, Princess Noura Bint Abdel Rahman University in Riyadh (world's largest order of centrifugal chillers in terms of monetary value), the Jebel Al Qala project in Saudi Arabia, the largest HVAC order in Kuwait and several multi-million dollar operation, service and maintenance contracts in the GCC.

"Since the foundation of our company in 1885 with the invention of the first electric room thermostat, we have considered ourselves stewards of our environment. The products we make and the services and solutions we deliver help make our customers businesses and operations cost effective and sustainable. It's time to take a proactive approach and take responsibility," added Mr. Mekky.

"Our vision of creating a more comfortable, safe and sustainable world defines our businesses, our people and the way in which we work with our customers and business partners. Globally, our commitment to 'Efficiency Now' remains the guiding principle for our businesses. The energy conservation solutions offered by Johnson Controls pay back for themselves in the short to medium term. In the case of the Empire State Building, with an initial estimated project cost of $20m, the building will save over $4.4m per year in energy costs alone. Greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced by more than 105,000 metric tons over the next 15 years," he added.

"More than ever before, efficiency has become the new industry metric. People who design, build, own and operate buildings need not only to control energy costs, reduce the environmental impact and increase the value of their buildings, but do it more efficiently. We provide ingenious products, services and solutions for companies to implement efficiency measures now - because it's never been more important," concluded Mr. Mekky.
