  • PRESS RELEASE

Johnson Controls Building Efficiency business unit, the global leader in providing energy efficiency solutions for buildings, has expanded its presence in the Middle East region with more offices, staff and increased business solutions.

The expansion of territories and solutions was encouraged after success from some showcase projects using Johnson Controls equipment and controls, including: the Bahrain Bay Project, the Pearl development in Qatar, and the Kingdom Tower and Jebel Al Qala in Saudi Arabia.

Johnson Controls has increases its workforce by approximately 8% this year to further demonstrate its commitment and increased focus within the region. Johnson Controls has a total of 130,000 employees worldwide.

"With the recent economic downturn, building owners have increased their focus on making their facilities more energy efficient to save money and decrease operating costs. By expanding our reach, and sharing our knowledge and expertise in performance contracting solutions we can help businesses reduce energy and utility consumption and the associated costs between 15% and 50%,"

said Magdy A. Mekky, Vice President and Managing Director, Middle East.

Johnson Controls has a modular chiller plant factory in the Jebel Ali Free Zone and factories for producing air-handling units, custom built units, rooftop packaged units and fan coil units in Saudi Arabia and Turkey. The business in Saudi Arabia is now operated through a joint venture between Johnson Controls and the Saudi Bin Laden group.

The company is currently providing turbine inlet cooling solutions in Saudi Arabia, and plans to expand this offering to other countries in the Gulf and Middle East.

The market is currently served through its completely established offices in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Egypt, Oman, Bahrain, Lebanon and Turkey. Johnson Controls provides energy efficiency products through its aftermarket business which includes rental solutions; performance contracting and energy efficiency retrofits. The dedicated service business provides operations and maintenance of equipment within the region.

New Web-based greenhouse gas reporting system

Another business solution for corporations globally, including the Middle East, was the recent launch of the Energy and Emissions Management System. The system provides organizations with the capability to analyze energy trends and calculate greenhouse gas levels. It measures, manages and forecasts activities related to energy cost, consumption, energy efficiency projects, fleet emissions, and waste. Organizations can receive easy-to-understand, auditable reports to validate incoming data.

The Energy and Emissions Management System is Web-based and incorporates one of the most advanced management software programs available to meet greenhouse gas emission reporting standards, according to Groom Energy Solutions, a renewable and energy efficiency service provider.

The system currently manages $1bn of annual energy spend and annually monitors 63 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions for 5,000 buildings located in 88 countries. The system has captured more than 8,000 energy and cost savings initiatives nearly half of which were achieved for global companies including Pfizer, Wyeth, Dell and Xerox.

"Energy efficiency has become the new metric for people who design, build, own and operate buildings," added Mr. Mekky. "They need to control energy costs, reduce the environmental impact and increase the value of their buildings, but do it more efficiently. We provide ingenious quality products, services and solutions for companies to implement efficiency measures now - because it's never been more important."
