This came following the Chairman of the Sharjah Department Sheikh Tariq's reception of the Sudanese investment minister Mr. Ahmed Omar Badr. Discussion revolved economic partnership opportunities between the two countries. Sheikh Tariq said:
"Trade is constantly growing between the U.A.E. and Sudan from 185 million DHS in 1997 to 494 million DHS in 2001. We are look forward to the increase of those numbers in the near future." His Highness added: "Sudan has the capacity for tremendous development. In addition to its large geographical area- which is 2.5 million square km within the African continent- its agricultural and oil resources can provide the Sudanese economy with the strength and stability necessary to increase Sudan's current growth average of 5.5%."

During the meeting other economic issues related to both sides were discussed such as plans to open a permanent exhibition to promote local U.A.E. products in Sudan through Sharjah's Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Promising investment opportunities in Sudan such as the telecommunications company SUDATEL were also on the table.

His Highness Al Qasimi said "SUDATEL is undergoing a good growth average. Etisalat's 9% share in the firm (SUDATEL)- as well as its excellent reputation- is aiding in increasing Emarati investors' trust."
