Intersec 2010 conference to underline key elements to a safer work environment

  • United Arab Emirates: Monday, January 04 - 2010 at 15:46
  • PRESS RELEASE

Construction, infrastructure development and industrial activity grew at an unprecedented rate in the Middle East region in the last decade. With these developments came concerns about the welfare and safety standards implemented amongst the burgeoning workforce employed in these sectors.

Recent findings have suggested that an overwhelming number of the 2.3 million plus accidents in the workplace worldwide are due to human or operational error. Many of these accidents could be avoided with increased education and awareness as well as by adopting the latest developments in safety technologies and measures to improve the work environment.

This will be one of the key issues highlighted at Intersec trade fair and conference, to be held at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from January 17-19, 2010.

"Safety in the workplace will be a pivotal issue at the conference running alongside this year's exhibition. Intersec 2010 will for the first time present an industry-led approach to the problem, with key experts driving the discussion and suggesting measures to enhance the workplace environment in the region. The event enjoys key support from Dubai Police and UAE Civil Defence, whom have championed the safer workplace movement in the UAE,"

said Ms Victoria Lee, Senior Show Manager, Intersec trade fair and conference.

Intersec 2010 is the largest trade event outside of Europe for security, health & safety and protection professionals and as such will showcase the latest developments in these fields. The event provides an ideal platform for industry leaders to network with global consultants and service providers in order to enhance workplace safety and security in accordance with global best practices.

Organisers of the show, Epoc Messe Frankfurt GmbH expect this year's event to see over 17,000 trade visitors and the participation of over 700 exhibitors, occupying 7 Halls at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. Following on from last year's success, Intersec 2010 will once again showcase safety measures and prevention techniques in a dedicated display area focusing on safety procedures when working at heights.

The high demand for construction and infrastructure projects which has emerged in the region in the past decade has resulted in a shortfall in the number of workers who have had previous worksite experience. As a result, many site-workers are generally unaware of the risks and hazards posed by the nature of their work.

There has been a realisation that a lot of workplace accidents are preventable by increased training and awareness. In addition to this there has been a surge in demand for safety and prevention training courses from health and safety professionals in the Middle East. This has, in turn, led to increased interest in the regional training market from leading world players and Intersec 2010 provides the ideal platform in which they can identify such business opportunities.
