  • United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, April 30 - 2003 at 17:10
  • PRESS RELEASE

Under the auspices of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai's latest healthcare clinic opened its doors today for the first official viewing by international and local media.

The Dubai Herbal & Treatment Centre specialises in complementary medicine, combining conventional therapies with alternative and traditional medicine.

Dr Ali Ridha, Director General of the Centre explained that "after a 2 month period of soft opening, we are now fully operational and our doors are open to the public". Located in the Zabeel area of Dubai, Dr Ridha said that "we were very fortunate to have been granted such a tranquil location surrounded by trees and open land."

"The Dubai Herbal & Treatment Centre offers a new concept in health care in Dubai. It provides a variety of ancient Chinese, Indian, Arabic herbal and allopathic health treatments, all under the one roof," said Dr Ali Ridha.

The centre's medical director Dr Upendra Acharya explained that traditional medicines share the same principal that the body is made up of various elements which preserve its equilibrium. "Once this equilibrium is disturbed, then disease sets in. To treat the disease, one has to treat the mind, body and spirit as one," said Dr Acharya.

"Complementary medicines are becoming increasingly popular methods of treating a whole range of modern day diseases. Many of the problems people confront today are associated to lifestyle issues, such as stress, hypertension and problems with diet. Many of these can be successfully treated through our holistic approach, combining a unique formula of traditional & conventional therapies," he said.

"In traditional Chinese medicine, the body is viewed in terms of the Yin and Yang. The Indian traditional therapy Ayurveda has it's the three "Doshas;" Pita, Vata and Kapha. Illness is defined as an imbalance of these elements. All disorders are excesses of one or more elements," said Dr Acharya.

The Dubai Herbal & Treatment Centre is a fully equipped health centre where treatments are provided by highly qualified medical professionals, including eminent specialists and professors. "They are all properly trained & accredited medical practitioners," said Dr Ridha. "We are combining the experience of conventional medical doctors with the philosophies and treatments of ancient medicine. It is a winning combination which aims to best serve our clients," said Dr Ali Ridha.

The centre has 7 consultation rooms including Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese medicine. In addition, the DH&TC offers various Ayurveda treatments including steam baths; manual lymph drainage and complex decongestive therapies; reflexology and Tachyon energy healing.

In order to provide the best diagnostic consultations, the centre boasts the most up to date medical equipment. Typical examples include X-Ray facilities, a laboratory, and a fully stocked pharmacy.

The latter houses some of the rarest and most precious herbs, oils and ointments in the world. One example is Enhanoid, which is extracted from Chinese mushrooms and costs around $275 for 150 oil capsules. Its widely revered to repair the immune system and in treating hepatitis.
