Dubai Municipality organizes Desert Environment campaign

Dubai Municipality, represented by its Environment and Waste Management departments, in collaboration with Hobbies Club, one of the projects of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Establishment for young people for sporting and leisure activities, in coordination with the Ministry of Environment and Water and Economic Department in Dubai, has launched a campaign called "Desert Environment Cleaning." The campaign, which started on January 1, 2010, will last until March 3, 2010.

The campaign, which had received huge success in the past year, was organized with the support and patronage of Dubai Municipality, Roads and Transport Authority, Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, DUBAL and National Paints.

In order to maintain the results and the positive recommendations of the campaign, the Municipality and the Hobbies Club decided to continue to organize the campaign for the second consecutive year as this campaign is an example of the constant interaction between Dubai Municipality and other government and private sector bodies as well as the education sector and voluntary organizations.

The campaign aims to protect the wild environment, guiding the behaviour of the society in preserving it, safety of the society and the protection of the environment in which we live, which is what the Municipality is seeking to achieve through the implementation of environmental education programs at various levels and contexts. It also aims to educate visitors of the desert environment, the importance of preserving it, and the best ways to maintain the cleanliness of the place, and spending leisure time the best way, especially during the holidays.

During the campaign, leaflets will be distributed to the desert visitors and posters will be placed at ADNOC stations, and an ideal environment camp will be set up at the site of the club with the participation from all nationalities, with a focus on nationals. In addition, horse riders will distribute awareness leaflets to visitors. A dedicated team of horsemen will be formed to make the rounds among the visitors, and invite the public to visit the camp environment to identify the best methods of camping.

It is worth mentioning that all organizational units of Dubai Municipality have always sought to protect the environment and the health of the members of the community. It has also developed regulations and legislation to protect the health of the individuals and the environment as well as providing effective services to monitor the establishments in the Emirate of Dubai.

Since its inception it has stressed the commitment to environmental standards for the protection and management of all areas related to the environment following the footsteps of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The Municipality has organized and participated a number of global and local awareness campaigns.
