Orascom Telecom renews its management contract of Alfa

In a step that would promote and boost the mobile sector in Lebanon, both the Lebanese Ministry of Telecommunications and Orascom Telecom Holding signed up the extension of the management contract of the Lebanese mobile network known as the "Alfa", managed by Orascom Telecom since the 1st of February 2009, for a period of six months ending on 31 July 2010.
Mr. Khaled Bichara, Orascom Telecom's CEO, said, "We are pleased with the achievements we have made in the Lebanese mobile market phones through our management of Alfa during the past year, and we hope to secure a presence for OTH within the long term plans of the Lebanese Republic for its mobile communication market."
Mr. Samer Salameh Alfa's CEO, said that "the achievements of Orascom Telecom to make Alfa regains its leading and pioneering position in the operation of the Telecommunication sector in Lebanon increased the confidence in the excellence of Orascom Telecom's administrative and operational capacities globally."
Salameh added, "During this year Alfa experienced higher levels of regional and global presence in the heart of the revolution of communications and digital technology in the Middle East. The enhancements underwent by Alfa included main technical projects that were implemented in parallel such as the Core Network upgrade, the Backbone transmission, the Radio/Capacity expansion as well as the replacement of the prepaid and postpaid billings systems. These efforts, normally undertaken over a period of years, were achieved in mere months, thanks to the combined efforts of Orascom Telecom and the Alfa employees. Alfa has now a brand new network enabling it to provide its customers with cutting-edge products and services."
Salameh announced that Alfa plans to implement new projects during 2010 to follow up Alfa's achievements in boosting the Telecommunication sector in Lebanon.
It's worth mentioning that "Orascom Telecom Holding" (OTH) is the international leading mobile operator in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia and counts over 89 million subscribers.
