In-flight style entertainment could soon be available for coach and bus passengers in the UAE

- PRESS RELEASE
Road passengers across the Middle East could soon enjoy in-flight style entertainment as a result of wireless technology, which will also make journeys safer.
MOD technology can be a real time-saver for executives traveling between meetings, as their vehicle can become a comprehensive mobile office. Equipped with USB playback and internet access, the system allows passengers to send and receive files and to prepare presentations using Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel or PowerPoint.
For bus operators and fleet managers, MOD can integrate with other telematics and communications systems such as Wifi, bluetooth and GPS, providing real-time information on traffic, weather and the status and location of vehicles, optimising fleet management.
Designed by Taiwanese company FUNTORO Inc., the MOD system will be introduced to the commercial vehicles industry at Commercial Vehicles Middle East, taking place from 9-11 March at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, in Sheikh Saeed Halls 2 and 3.
Arthur Huang, Vice-President of FUNTORO said: "As a leader in entertainment and telematics solutions for vehicles, our mission is to create an intelligent vehicle which provides top class entertainment and the latest in mobile communication, but also maximises car safety and environmental protection.
"The Middle East is one of our major markets and Commercial Vehicles Middle East is a great opportunity for us to meet potential customers and widen brand awareness in this region."
While the MOD system has been designed for commercial vehicles such as buses, coaches, taxis and even metros, it is also suitable for passenger cars and vans, and can be upgraded to support several hundreds of monitors on a train. It can also integrate with a vehicle's rear view camera and tire pressure monitoring system, helping operators to improve road safety.
According to transport industry experts, the introduction of a multimedia system such as MOD could transform the passenger experience, and encourage more people to use public transport.
Joddie Gray, Vice President of Operations at Urban Trans, an international transportation consulting firm said: "Based on international research, incentives to take public transport or carpool are required to change travel behaviour, especially when someone has the choice to drive their personal vehicle. Creating an enjoyable travel experience is an important incentive. Whether for entertainment purposes or for a daily commute to work, technology should be an integrated part of any public transport system."
Nick Webb, Director of Streamline Marketing Group, organisers of Commercial Vehicles Middle East said: "Commercial Vehicles Middle East will provide a launching pad for international companies and major vehicle manufacturers to introduce new products, services and technology to the region.
"FUNTORO's technology is innovative and could transform the travel and commuting experience for bus and train passengers in the UAE, and across the Middle East."
Running alongside the exhibition, the Commercial Vehicles Conference from 9-10 March will highlight ways for commercial vehicles operators to increase efficiency and reduce costs. Key themes include managing the safety and environmental impact of fleets, fuel management, ownership and financial best practice and technological advances.
The two day conference will be followed by specialised industry seminars and a series of certified, technical workshops organised with the support of international professional groups and regional government departments.
