  • PRESS RELEASE

The UAE's Ministry of Health has confirmed its endorsement of the InnovHealth 2010 summit taking place in Abu Dhabi.

The director general of UAE's Ministry of Health, Dr. Salem Al Darmaki was quoted as saying, "The UAE Ministry of Health is proud to endorse InnovHealth 2010, the most strategic gathering of healthcare professionals in the Middle East."

Hosting the summit in Abu Dhabi - the capital of the UAE - was a strategic decision made by the summit's producer, business information company, Naseba.

"We welcome the endorsement of InnovHealth 2010 by the UAE's Ministry of Health," said Naseba's healthcare series director, Fabien Faure.

"The Middle East's vast growth and forward-thinking stance on healthcare makes it the world's fastest growing region with regards to that sector. However, due to this rapid growth, the region faces various inefficiencies which need to be overcome as soon as possible through innovations in healthcare technology, management systems, cutting edge pharmaceutical solutions and advanced healthcare tracking systems. InnovHealth is the only platform tackling these critical issues at this time," Faure added.

According to the media, Abu Dhabi features the highest GDP per capita in the world and an average net-worth of $17m for the emirate's 420,000 citizens.

InnovHealth 2010 is the region's most up-to-date summit, focusing on the latest developments in healthcare product solutions in medical research, technological development, equipment, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals and more. Several high-profile experts will speak at the event, covering a diverse range of topics. Speakers include the director general of the Health Ministers' Council for Cooperation States, Tawfik A M Khoja; chief executive officer of Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, Baltej S Maini and chief executive officer of Gulf Healthcare International, Mark Adams.

Facilitating strategic networking in a five-star environment, the summit invites the region's high-profile healthcare leaders, all of whom will benefit from informative conference sessions and panel discussions during the two-day summit.

According to media reports, Middle East governments are investing heavily in healthcare with the introduction of compulsory health insurance being implemented throughout the region. The region's healthcare sector is said to stand at $74bn and is projected to grow by 16% annually.

About the Ministry of Health - UAE:

The Ministry of Health is committed to providing quality and easily accessible health and medical services to all in the United Arab Emirates. To achieve this objective, the Ministry has launched an ambitious plan for the development of long term strategies and policies.

A network of health facilities has already been established in urban and rural areas. In addition to a competently functioning chain of health centres, many general hospitals and specialised centres have also been upgraded.

Moreover, the Ministry has also focused on the prevention and control of infectious diseases and has succeeded in eliminating Malaria and Poliomyelitis, something that has been recognised by prominent international health institutions like the World Health Organization. This success has encouraged the Ministry to combat chronic diseases, which have emerged to be one of the leading causes of mortality and constitute a significant health and economic burden.

In this regard, special emphasis is being placed on health education and awareness.

The Ministry of Health would not have been able to accomplish these successes had it not been for pursuing the vision and wisdom of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE.
