  • PRESS RELEASE

Dubai as a business and leisure destination will be more accessible and affordable from March 30th this year when Flydubai, Dubai's first low-cost airline, starts twice daily flights from Kuwait City.

Kuwait will be Flydubai's thirteenth destination overall and fourth in the GCC. The new double daily service is expected to be highly popular with business people, visitors and tourists and will give travellers the opportunity to travel more often.

Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of Flydubai said:

"A strong GCC network is at the heart of Flydubai's strategy and as an old friend Kuwait was a natural choice as our next destination. We are making a strong commitment to serving and expanding this route by providing an alternate air travel option and we thank the authorities in Kuwait for their help and support to make this announcement possible. Flydubai looks forward to a long and successful relationship with Kuwait and to doing our part to strengthening the relationship between Kuwait and the UAE."

"For Kuwait residents, Dubai is already a frequently visited cosmopolitan centre for business and leisure. Its many cultural festivities, international and regional events and exhibitions also attract a growing number of Kuwaiti residents throughout the year," he said.

"Kuwait is also growing in strength - its businesses are thriving and economy expanding. Infrastructure developments, urbanisation and a new port at Bubiyan Island are all signs of this. While trading and commerce have always been a major link between both countries, tourism to the oil rich state is also growing because of its strong Islamic traditions - this new service will definitely help support Kuwait's budding tourism sector," Ghaith continued.

The twice daily flights to Dubai will cost from just KWD 13 one-way, which includes all taxes and one piece of hand baggage weighing up to 10kg. Flights are available for purchase from the website (Flydubai.com), call centre (+965 22414400) and travel agents from today.

Flights FZ054 and FZ062 will leave Kuwait at 0840hrs and 2050hrs respectively, arriving in Dubai at 1120hrs and 2330hrs local time respectively. Flights from Dubai, FZ053 and FZ061 will leave at 0705hrs and 1915hrs arriving in Kuwait at 0755hrs and 2005hrs local time.

The airline's existing eleven destinations are: Beirut-Lebanon, Amman-Jordan, Damascus and Aleppo-Syria, Alexandria-Egypt, Djibouti-Africa, Doha-Qatar, Khartoum-Sudan, Baku-Azerbaijan, Bahrain and Kathmandu-Nepal. Flydubai has also announced flights to Oman, its twelfth route, with services starting from March 28th this year.

Flydubai operates new 737-800 Next Generation aircraft which comes from a Boeing family that is officially the most commercially successful model designed. The Boeing NG 737-800 has a capacity of 189 economy passengers, can fly for more than 5,500km (3000 nautical miles) and cruise at an altitude of between 35,000 and 41,000 feet.

The Flydubai model is simple, with customers paying only for the services they want to receive. The price includes all taxes and one piece of hand baggage, weighing up to 10 kg, per passenger.

Passengers have the option to purchase checked-in baggage in advance at just KWD 3.5 for the first piece and KWD 8 for the second, weighing up to 32 kg, subject to availability. Checked baggage at the airport is also strictly subject to availability and passengers are advised to book online early to secure the space, as only pre-purchased baggage can be guaranteed.

A nominal payment starting from KWD 0.5 allows customers to select their seat and just KWD 8 secures the extra legroom positions. Bookings can be changed for a small fee, plus any difference in the fare, and food and drink can be purchased on board.

Flydubai operates from a modernised and enhanced Terminal 2 on the north side of Dubai International Airport.
