Sea Ports and Italian Region of Campania participate at the Dubai International Boat Show

  • United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, March 10 - 2010 at 15:55
  • PRESS RELEASE

With an attractive array of new proposals at the Super Yacht Pavilion of the Dubai International Boat Show, Sea Ports - a Special Agency of the Chamber of Commerce of Salerno - and the Region of Campania confirm their companies' leading position in the world yachting industry and seek to deepen their ties with the dynamic GCC market.

The GCC and particularly the UAE have been the focus of an important effort by the Region of Campania to expand its presence in the international nautical market. The leading position of the UAE in this field and the ambitious projects currently under development, clearly define the country as a privileged target for the Campanian marine industry, traditionally one of the strongest in the world.

Emirati super yacht owners have been visiting the world-renowned attractions of Campania for some time already, making significant contributions to the local tourism economy. Some of them have their boats permanently stationed in Campania, using all kinds of services from local providers. Now the Campania Region and Sea Ports want to extend that contribution by attracting also mid size boats, currently the most dynamic segment of the market in the GCC. And the outlook is promising since Campania's boat production is concentrated precisely in mid size vessels from 20' to 130'.

But the possibilities do not end there. Campania has more than 250 charter boat companies in operation with a combined fleet of over 10,000 vessels of all types. This makes it a great nautical destination for those enthusiasts based in the GCC that do not own a boat or just don't have the time to navigate all the way from the Gulf to the Mediterranean.

The growing trends of the boat market in the UAE and all that Campania has to offer as a yacht manufacturer as well as a prime nautical tourism destination are a perfect match that promises a long and fruitful relationship.

Ports in Campania are spread all along the coast and Sea Ports offers a series of services aimed to improve the coordination and the efficiency of all the activities related to the ports and to the tourism on the coast.

About Campania:

The region is located in South West Italy facing the Tyrrhenian Sea and has one of the finest coastlines in the Mediterranean. The hinterland is essentially mountainous, with irregular massifs broken here and there by valleys and plains. Naples is the regional capital and other important cities are Caserta, Benevento, Salerno and Avellino.

With a pleasant climate for at least 10 months a year, the nautical tourism in Campania is extremely favored by the natural characteristics of the territory. Indeed, the 550 Km long Campania's shoreline is extremely diverse, with long portions of rock rich coast alternated with the finest volcanic sands and varied sea depths.

Campania offers one of the most comprehensive sailing environments in the world, with a wide range of nautical tourism possibilities. The region has more than 50 ports and marinas spread over 500 km of coastline with 20,000 berths.

Moreover, the 250 kilometers of Mediterranean cost of the province of Salerno are recognized by its crystal clear waters and marine fauna. The landscaping beauty of towns like Sorrento, Capri, Positano, Amalfi and Paestum, are an icon of the Italian charm and, thanks to countless references in music and cinema, have become a myth of romanticism and enjoyment of life.

The most known attractions of Campania are the cities of Naples and Sorrento, the marvelous islands of Ischia and Capri, the Imperial Villa in Capri, the Royal Palace of Caserta with its magnificent gardens, the ruins of the ancient cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum and the splendid Amalfi coast, one of the world's top tourism destinations.

Campania was commonly referred to as "felix" ("happy" in Latin) because it has virtually everything you need to lead a peaceful life.

The Region of Campania has a long tradition in boat building and is considered the cradle of modern boating in Europe, being the first in the continent to introduce fiberglass in yacht manufacturing. Its boating industry accounts for about 1,200 companies, half of which are shipyards with a total annual turnover exceeding EUR1bn.
