Safi Airways appoints Executive Vice Chairman

Safi Airways, the international airline of Afghanistan, has appointed Captain Werner Borchert as executive vice chairman at a time when the airline has achieved three successive months of profitability. He was formerly COO of the airline based in Kabul.
Borchert has a long career in the aviation industry playing a pivotal role in the launch of the Abu Dhabi airline Etihad and also Jet Airways of India. He is a career pilot and trainer and is an expert on the compliance rules of international aviation.
The senior management team of Safi Airways now consists of Werner Borchert as COO and executive vice chairman, fellow German Claus Fischer as CCO, and Belgian Tom deGeytere as CFO. They all joined Safi in early 2009 and worked on turning the airline into profitability.
Safi Airways currently operates international passenger flights between Kabul and Frankfurt, Kuwait, Doha and Dubai. It plans to commence flights to three more destinations in the near future.
