- PRESS RELEASE
The Enterprise Mobility Solutions business of Motorola, leader in the development and deployment of mission critical communications solutions, today announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the United Arab Emirates' Ministry of Interior expanding its partnership with the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ (General Head Quarters) to provide a range of solutions and managed services.
The signing of the MOU follows a successful pilot project, which commenced at the end of February this year, showcasing Motorola's state-of-the-art mobile closed-circuit television (CCTV) solution for Abu Dhabi Police. During the first phase of the pilot, which is planned to run until August 2010, Motorola will provide Abu Dhabi Police with an integrated mobile broadband solution to enable enhanced video security operations across the Force's vehicles and personnel in addition to supporting any Internet Protocol (IP) applications.
A core aspect of the solution is the inclusion of the MOTOLocator solution, the primary purpose of which is to enable location-based video surveillance from police in the field back to the control room. MOTOLocator has been designed to support operations that improve safety for residents and businesses in the UAE's capital.
Motorola's advanced suite of applications enables operators at five command and control centers in Abu Dhabi to view, interact and respond to high resolution, real-time streaming video from police vehicles and personnel in the field. This enables Police on-the-ground to make fast decisions as situations unfold and respond appropriately.
MOTOLocator can also be used to cost-effectively connect other applications used by the Abu Dhabi Police, including fixed camera installations, automated speed tracking of vehicles, facial recognition and automatic license plate recognition. As the project progresses, National ID, electronic passports and fingerprint reading capabilities will be also added.
"Motorola continues to play a leading role in the delivery of mission critical solutions for public safety bodies and its commitment to meeting their evolving needs. We're excited to sign this Memorandum of Understanding which builds on the existing partnership with Abu Dhabi Police to deploy further cutting edge technology putting real-time information into the hands of the police force," said Manuel Torres, corporate vice president and general manager, Motorola Enterprise Mobility Solutions, EMEA.
Motorola's video security solutions bring together a new wave of advanced technologies, transforming video security systems from the relative passivity of simple video surveillance to more active, collaborative and intelligent video security. An integral part of Motorola's mission critical portfolio, the video security solutions provide 'Technology That´s Second Nature', enabling seamless connectivity and real-time information to empower the public safety user to make the right decision at the right time.
