  • United Arab Emirates: Thursday, March 25 - 2010 at 11:26
  • PRESS RELEASE

Bus Dep't at Public Transport Agency of the Dubai Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has launched on the first of December 2009 four new bus routes covering several areas in the emirate of Dubai, announced Eisa Abdul-Rahman Al Dosari, CEO of Public Transport Agency at RTA.

"The four routes are: Route 22: from Deira Bus Station to Al Nahdah 1, Route 47: from Rashidiya Bus Station to Jumeirah Beach Park, Route 53: from Gold Souq Station to the International City, and Route 88: from Deira City Center Bus Station to Dubai Media City. The buses will roam several districts in the emirate rendering domestic mobility in Dubai on public transport modes an efficient, speedy and smooth process" said Al Dosari.

He added:

"RTA is keen on broadening and upgrading public transport network to cope with the urban expansion and demographic growth in the Emirate of Dubai. Public bus routes are part of the strategic initiatives and are considered the foundation of increasing the rate of journeys made by public transport network. The aim is to lure all segments of the community to use mass transit systems in their daily travels; which will have positive outcomes on easing the flow of traffic movement and cleaning the environment. Increasing public transport ridership will minimize traffic congestion, limit crashes, boost traffic safety, and considerably cut pollution rates resulting from excessive use of private vehicles"

Commenting on the operation of the new service Al Dosari said: "7 buses have been deployed on Route 22 from Saturday to Friday with a 20 minutes service frequency. 10 buses have been deployed on Route 47 from Saturday to Wednesday, with 8 on Fridays with a 20 minutes frequency between services. 9 buses have been deployed on Route 53 from Saturday to Friday with a 20 minutes frequency rate between services. 12 buses have been deployed on Route 88 from Saturday to Thursday, and 8 buses on Friday with a 20 minutes interval between services".

In another related development, bus services have been upgraded in several other routes such as operating overnight service on Route N4 from Al Rashidiya Metro Station to Nakheel Harbour & Tower Metro Station, where 7 buses have been deployed on this Route to offer services at 20 minutes interval. Service interval has improved on Route C1 to 6 minutes during peak hours as the number of buses deployed became 32 buses from Saturday to Thursday and 18 buses on Fridays. The path of the two Routes 99 and 8A has been extended to Ibn Battuta Station, and similarly the path of Route 93 has been extended to Mall of the Emirates Station, while the service interval timing has been improved on other routes.
