"The program offers a broad knowledge in the applied and basic fields of Physics for the BA graduates as well as it offers job opportunities for the graduates in places like hospitals, clinics, environmental institutions and vocational health centres,"
said the program's coordinator, Dr. Luma Sakhnini.
She added that the program could qualify the graduates to continue up their higher education in the fields of Medical Physics at prestigious international universities.
"The term 'Medical Physics' refers to a branch of physics in medicine, and what this world is witnessing today in the medical diagnostic field and the treatment of organic diseases is the result of the knowledge gained from this scientific field," explained Dr. Sakhnini.
She pointed out that the academic syllabuses were not sufficient to make a medical physicist and what was needed alongside those syllabuses was a vocational training in the specialized medical institutions. The Department of Physics, she said, still cooperates with a number of local and international medical institutions such as the European Organization for Nuclear Research, Bahrain Defense Force (BDF) Military Hospital, University of Chicago, Salmania Medical Complex, University of California, Bahrain Specialist Hospital, etc.
Sakhnini concluded that the program consists of eleven courses in the field of Medical Physics, and besides these courses, there are four compulsory courses in Pure Physics to be taken during the third and fourth years. Four extra courses, one of them is a training course and three are elective courses that can be selected from both the Medical physics and Pure Physics courses, are also required in the study plan of the program.
