Radisson Blu Hotel Dubai Media City switches to eco-friendly paper
- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, May 13 - 2010 at 11:05
- PRESS RELEASE
Radisson Blu Hotel Dubai Media City announced that the hotel decided to switch to 100% post-consumer recycled paper and reduce environmental damage. The decision results in saving of 27,000 gallons of water, 64 mature trees, 15,000 kilowatts of electricity, and 3.75 tons of waste diverted from landfills.
"We will use Ecodoc, an eco-sustainable product from the portfolio of Ecobility, a UAE-based CleanTech company. Our decision will result in an annual saving for resources of electricity and water as well, as we save 64 trees and reduce waste of landfills," said Baiguera.
"Our Responsible Business initiative works around environment and community we operate in and this decision is one of several we have taken-up in the past," said Baiguera.
Karim Aly, Director of Strategy & Innovation at Ecobility, said, "With the use of Ecodoc, the hotel has found a sustainable solution that will significantly shrink its ecological footprint without having to compromise on performance or quality. Equally as important, since Ecodoc is priced in line with virgin paper, the financial burden of embracing an eco-sustainable alternative is completely eliminated."
"An environment friendly printing paper will have a direct advantage of saving wood, energy, water and reduction in carbon emissions," said Baiguera.
The decision to switch to Ecodoc will add to the overall environment conservation efforts under the umbrella of Responsible Business.
The Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Media City already uses energy efficient LED lighting that has reduced the hotel's energy consumption by more than 80%.
Also, recently, the hotel team has created eco-designer lamps from recycled waste for its Tamanya Terrace and launched a drive to collect recycled batteries during the global Earth Hour campaign.

1. What is Post-Consumer Recycled Paper?
This is paper that has been used by the consumer (printed on), then discarded responsibly and collected for recycling - thus keeping it out of a landfill. The more post-consumer recovered material that is incorporated into recycled paper the better.
2. Why should we choose to buy recycled paper products?
The sustainability of paper recycling ultimately depends on there being a consumer market for the paper products made from the recovered waste paper. Sending your used paper for recycling is a great first step but we must also make an effort to continue the demand for recycled products by actively choosing to buy them i.e. "closing the loop".
