Knowledge Oasis Muscat holds inaugural ceremony of third generation solar energy panel

Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM), the one and only technology park in Oman managed by the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE), is taking a major stride in demonstrating the potential of renewable energy sources.

KOM, in collaboration with Advanced Business Systems Company, Azur Space Solar Power GmbH (Germany) and Concentrix Solar GmbH, has set up a third generation solar energy panel within its campus. The official inauguration of the solar panel will be held under the patronage of HE Al Fadhel bin Mohamed Al Harthy, Under Secretary, Ministry of National Economy for Development Affairs, on Tuesday, 18th May 2010. The event will take place at 9:00 am in the auditorium at the Middle East College of Information Technology at KOM.

During the ceremony, the new generation technology in this area will be explained and compared with the previous first and second generation ones. There will be a live demonstration of energy production from the experimental station, which is the first of its kind in the Middle East region.

Through the above initiative, Knowledge Oasis Muscat is strengthening its role to function as the harbinger of technological changes, especially in areas of extreme socio-economic benefit such as ICT and renewable energy. It is expected that this experimental station will convincingly demonstrate its potential to generate solar power and thereby pave the way for leveraging on the capabilities of this technology for wider applications in the Sultanate.
