Consumexpo Sharjah, a new multi-products consumer exhibition opened at Expo Centre Sharjah on Thursday, 1st May 2003. The show was inaugurated by H.E. Ahmed Mohammed Al Midfa in the company of board members of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce & Industry, members of the diplomatic corps and trade associations, heads of the participating exhibitors and delegation of international and regional businessmen.

The show features over 90 local and international companies displaying a wide range of household and consumer products. The exhibition has a run up to 9th May 2003.

Speaking on the inauguration, Mr. Fasahat Ali Khan, Deputy Director General of Expo Centre Sharjah said that Expo Centre Sharjah is committed to its goal of stimulating and developing the UAE's economy, whether by bringing in fresh investments and deals to members of the trade and industry, or making new products and services directly available to UAE's public. 'Consumexpo Sharjah will not only offer a chance to the public at large to avail the new products and services of different countries, but is also an opportunity for convenience store and supermarket owners to source new products,' he said.

The show has brought together exhibitors from India, Pakistan, Mozambique, Latvia, Singapore, Syria, and the UAE, who are displaying the novelties and varieties of their respective countries in a wide range of consumer and household product categories. The product categories include home textiles, garments, leather bags and footwear, interiors, furniture & miscellaneous household products, gifts, novelties & jewellery, perfumes & cosmetics, stationery, etc. The exhibition also features a separate home electronics and appliances section.

Speaking earlier, Mr. Khan pointed out, 'The show was conceived by us keeping in mind the strong potential UAE's retail sector holds, and Expo Centre's expertise in organising successful consumer shows. The event is being held in May, a time when UAE's large expatriate community do their shopping for their annual vacation to their home countries. For the participating local and international companies, the event is a cost-effective opportunity for not only direct sales, but also to enhance brand awareness and test the marketability of their new products,' he added.

Visitors to the show will also have the chance to win fabulous prizes on their visit. The show will remain open from 1 to 9 May, everyday from 10 am to 1 pm (except Friday) and 5 pm to 10 pm. Admission is free for everyone.
