The new system is now used in the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands, Belgium, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark. Expectations are that the system will be launched worldwide within a matter of months, replacing all current online booking systems.

Extended electronic service provision
KLM Executive Vice President Commercial Paul Gregorowitsch says: 'In cooperation with travel agents, KLM aims to generate a certain percentage of its sales online within the next five years. Bearing this in mind, electronic services are being robustly extended both via www.klm.com and the e ticketing and self-service check-in facilities at Schiphol. In so doing, we intend to make the different aspects of travel - from planning and booking to checking in - available to our customers electronically as well. This will empower customers to determine how they wish to do business with us for themselves. Our new online booking system ties in well with this philosophy.'

Find the right flight fast
Using the new online booking system will make it easier and faster for users to find the right flight at an appropriate price. The new system differs from the old in a number of important respects. It now enables you to view departure options up to a week prior to and after the desired departure date. A calendar appears showing different available fares in different colors. This makes it far easier and quicker to see if adjusting the departure date would mean a better price. The new system also makes it possible to reserve one-way and return flights. In booking a roundtrip journey, a maximum of four different flights can be booked on any given ticket.
