- PRESS RELEASE
VERITAS Software Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTS), the leading storage software provider, announced today its continued leadership in the storage management software market.
"Although there is a lack of concrete analyst data for the Middle East's storage market, we believe that Gartner's findings are reflected in this region as well, based on our consolidations in the banking, energy and telecoms sectors," said Mike Hynes, Regional Manager, VERITAS Software Middle East. "In 2003, we expect to see continued opportunities in our core, established markets as well as in storage resource management and replication, as we bring new technologies and products to the Middle East and integrate our recent acquisitions."
"VERITAS will continue to perform well in the Middle East because of the strong demand here for storage, which is driven by a vibrant and growing economy. With so many companies coming to this region to set up offices, and increasing awareness that data is an organization's most vital asset, VERITAS is set to maintain its market leadership," Hynes added.
The 2002 results represent a repeat of VERITAS' strong performance in 2001. According to the Gartner report, VERITAS has retained its leadership or gained market share in the following segments:
• Volume management/virtualization: VERITAS continues its strong leadership position in the volume management/virtualization software segment, with 71.8 per cent of the combined UNIX and Windows server platform market. VERITAS provides easy-to-use, online storage management software that helps to reduce the cost and complexity of managing heterogeneous data center environments.
• Backup and recovery: VERITAS NetBackup™ and Backup Exec™ software constitute more than 48 per cent of the worldwide market for UNIX and Windows backup and recovery. VERITAS market share for Windows server backup/recovery grew to 57 per cent in 2002. VERITAS data protection software helps to ensure the recovery of critical business data, with solutions that span from the desktop to the data center.
• Replication: VERITAS' revenue from replication software grew 52 per cent at a time when the overall replication segment shrank by 9 per cent. This represents the fastest growth among the top ten vendors in the market and signifies VERITAS' growth in server-based replication amid a declining market for array-based replication. VERITAS replication technologies offer a flexible, cost-effective and heterogeneous approach to rapidly replicating data for datacenter migration and disaster recovery.
Decision-makers in the Middle East can learn more about the selection of solutions at the VERITAS VISION™ 2003 user conference. The event will be held in Dubai on June 11 at the Emirates Towers Hotel.
