The Fairmont puts Canon convenience into top Dubai hotel

The Fairmont Dubai has raised the bar on the services that executive guests can expect when visiting Dubai, with the installation of in-room business systems from Ultra.Serv International in 140 of its suites.

This is a pioneering move for The Fairmont Dubai, which has implemented this initiative first here in the Middle East, before its sister hotels around the world.

The Fairmont Dubai contracted Ultra.Serv, an international supplier of communications solutions for hotels and a worldwide customer of Canon, to implement its biz.comm complete in-room business and communications centres. All suites at The Fairmont Dubai are now equipped with the biz.comm system, based around the Canon MPC75 multifunction devices, which provide guests with ultra-convenient fax, printing, copying and scanning facilities. Each guest is allocated a unique, private fax number when they check in, which stays in operation only for the duration of their stay, allowing the guest to send and receive confidential documents directly from their rooms.

Having all the tools of a modern office right there in their room is enormously useful to guests, especially visiting businesspeople, as it allows them to work more effectively while travelling. "The biz.comm system is a really great convenience for our guests. Having to use the business centre at a hotel means unwanted hassle, and can waste time. Now they have everything they need right there - printer, scanner, fax, copier. Besides allowing us to give the guest just a little more value, there are also enormous advantages for the hotel, in that the biz.comm system interfaces with our front office property management system, allowing us to easily work out charges, and connect it to our guest relations and messaging systems, " said Andrew Huzyk, Director of Technology at The Fairmont Dubai.

At the press of a button, guests can have their up-to-the-minute hotel bills delivered to the room instantly via the biz.comm system. The system is an excellent communications medium between hotel staff and their guests, as the hotel can send welcome letters in a variety of languages, pass on telephone or personal messages, and provide notice of hotel functions and services to individual guests or a group of guests. The hotel can select which of the biz.comm services should be available and charged for, and set tariffs accordingly. The guest's account is charged instantly.

"Because Ultra.Serv has based its system on standard Canon technology, we can get spares and maintenance done right here in Dubai, and consumables such as ink cartridges can be sourced from any office supplies company. Proprietary systems that we have used before were problematic in terms of reliability and sourcing consumables. The Canon technology is reliable, and easy to use," added Huzyk.
