  • United Arab Emirates: Monday, July 05 - 2010 at 15:21
  • PRESS RELEASE

The Samsung Galaxy S smartphone is now available in stores in the UAE. The innovative device which is raising the bar in terms of its wide variety of features and personalization is set to appeal to tech-savvy consumers in the region. Worldwide, a record 200,000 sales have already been recorded in South Korea since the Galaxy S was launched there on June 24.

The 9.9 millimetre thin Galaxy S, which weighs just 119g, is powered by a 1-gigahertz chip and a bright 4-inch WVGA 16M Superamoled display, which projects a sharper and more distinct display when in sunlight.

Sandeep Saihgal, general manager of mobile phones at Samsung Gulf Electronics, said: "Internationally, the Galaxy S has already seen impressive sales since its launch in key markets, and we are confident we will see healthy sales of the Android™-powered device in the UAE market too. Through the launch of the Galaxy S, we hope for increased market share in the ever-lucrative smartphone sector."

The Samsung Galaxy S makes Smart Life a reality, delivering a new class of smartphone delivering a wealth of intelligent and impressive experience for its users.

The smartphone also features six-axis motion sensing using an accelerometer and geo-magnetic sensor and a user interface that supports a series of advanced touch screen gestures capabilities including multitouch pinch, long tap and zoom and vertical and horizontal swiping.

A key feature of the Galaxy S is the Social Hub which focuses on social networking and keeping all one's friends and contacts just a touch away, whether through Facebook, Twitter and other platforms. All messages across email, text and social networking sites are received instantly, preventing users from having to navigate through multiple applications to receive a message. Fast, clever, and unique to Samsung phones, Social Hub is the future of social networking.

With the Layar Reality Browser, Galaxy S uses its camera to overlay contextual information about points of interest. Users can access rich, accurate augmented reality content by holding their device up to a point of interest, such as a landmark. They can easily pull up movie times for a theatre or a menu or reviews for a restaurant to help plan an on-the-fly business meeting since information is sourced from robust databases like Google Maps and Tele Atlas.

Swype is another key feature of Galaxy S that allows people to input text on the Galaxy S screen at 1.5 times the speed of thumb-based entry with one continuous finger motion across the keyboard. Swype is a great way to capture ideas or notes in a nanosecond. Users can also jot down an idea first and later on decide on the best format (SNS, SMS, email, calendar, and memo) to send it.

With the Galaxy S, customers will have access to Samsung Apps, a marketplace which provides users with a wide variety of mobile applications specially developed and selected for Samsung mobile users. Samsung Apps provides consumers with an expanded, easy-to-navigate selection of content and applications from leading content providers and services - all driven by a fast and more flexible Samsung platform.

The Galaxy S was available in major stores throughout the UAE from July 4.
