Abu Dhabi Government announces its participation in ESRI International User Conference

The Government of Abu Dhabi has announced its participation in (ESRI International User Conference), as organized by the Environmental System Research Institute (ESRI) in San Diego, California, for the period 12th to 16th of July.

Abu Dhabi Systems & Information Centre undertakes the responsibility for managing the preparation and coordination of the contributions made by governmental bodies at all Conference levels, which is considered the most important international event in the field of geographic information systems, and an opportunity to meet thousands of elite decision-makers and businessmen, where visitors are keen to attend the numerous activities, technical workshops, interactive sessions, training sessions, maps exhibition, and the other various events to acknowledge the state-of-art technology in the industry.

The participation of the state delegation in the conference, varies according to the developed plan, in attending the launch of the conference and the release of (19.20.21 project), and the executives' symposium, as well as the participation in the section of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and in maps exhibition, in addition to attending some events and training courses, aiming at upgrading the competencies and technical capabilities of the participants.

The Emirate of Abu Dhabi has been selected by the Conference to be the featured guest of the year, and for the participation in project (19.20.21), which idea is based on (19 cities in the world, with a population of 20 million people in the 21st century); in an initiative to collect and analyze the impact of population growth on urban and economic planning, and which is still in launch phase. In spite of the fact that the population of the Emirate is less than 20 million people, yet because of the progress achieved in the sector of geographic information systems, adopted them in decision-making process, the cities of Abu Dhabi and New York City / Manhattan were selected to compare the performance indicators in both cities, benefitting from the impact of population growth on their urban development.

The Environmental System Research Institute (ESRI) is organizing several annual conferences in various locations all over the world, the most famous of which is ESRI International User Conference, which takes place every year over the last 14 years in the city of San Diego in California, either in July or in August, in addition to the annual conferences on GIS applications in certain disciplines; such as developers conferences, education conferences, and GIS applications in the fields of gas, electricity, engineering, space, health and oil.

About Abu Dhabi Systems & Information Centre:
The Abu Dhabi Systems & Information Centre (ADSIC) was created as a Committee in October 2005 by Executive Council Decree No. 33, issued by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, and established as Centre in 2008 by Law No. 18. ADSIC's role is to develop, drive and support various initiatives within the Government to transform government services in the Emirate. A key objective of this transformation is to establish a modern, efficient and citizen-centric e-Government platform to match the best in the world.

The Abu Dhabi Systems & Information Centre Mandate. The Centre is considered as the governmental party that owns the IT agenda of the Emirate, and has the authority to practice the following competences:
• Supervise the implementation of the e-Government program in Abu Dhabi Government entities.
• Sponsor initiatives and mature assets and competencies that it deems of critical importance for the e-Government project.
• Propose policies and technology standards for government and relevant entities to achieve a comprehensive quality in reaching the highest levels of efficiency, confidentiality, and safety in the e-Government project.
• Issue rules and guidelines regarding the implementation of IT policies and the technical specifications, and communicate them to all the Government entities.
• Submit the guidelines to the Council regarding the IT sector and the e-Government.
