Siemens to build a EUR280 million plant in Kuwait

Siemens has won another big order in the region, this time a 1000MW gas turbine power plant in Kuwait.

The Siemens Power Generation Group has secured an order from Kuwait for the construction of a 1000MW gas turbine power plant 80 kilometres south of Kuwait City.

Purchaser of the Az Zour power plant is the Ministry of Electricity and Water. Siemens PG is to supply eight gas turbines including the associated generators and the electrical and controls systems. The plant can be run either on gas or oil. After completion in 2005, the plant is to feed power into Kuwait's interconnected power grid.

The Power Generation Group of Siemens AG is one of the premier companies in the international power generation sector with a workforce of around 26,000 world-wide. In fiscal 2002 (which ended September 30), Siemens PG posted sales amounting to EUR9.4 billion and received new orders totalling EUR10.6 billion.
