Al Shafar appointed to head Standard Chartered Abu Dhabi & Al Ain

UAE national Mohammed A. Al Shafar has been appointed by Standard Chartered UAE to head the banks' operations in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.

The 44-year-old national joins the bank after having run his own business for the past nine years. Previously Al Shafar held numerous positions with Emirates airline, including General Manager Gulf, Middle East and Africa.

The appointment of Al Shafar, who holds a BSc in Business Administration from the University of Southern Colorado, comes as Standard Chartered Bank looks to expand its focus within the Abu Dhabi emirate.

"Mohammed brings with him rich and varied business experience in the area of commercial operations and general management," said Ray Ferguson, Chief Executive Officer, Standard Chartered Bank- UAE.

"He will be responsible for the overall execution of our Abu Dhabi growth plan and for developing the Bank's interface with all our stakeholders."
