The Oman Awards for Excellence is an annual award programme developed by the private sector, to encourage further development of the sector and to celebrate the accomplishment of individuals, companies and other contributors who are creating jobs and driving the Omani economy.
Torbjörn Bodin, General Manager of the hotel and Abdullah Ali Al Nabri, President of owning company Global Development LLC, received the award from Abdul Rahman Al Busaidi, the chief executive of Oman Aviation. The local airline had won the previous year's award in the same category.
The other two finalists, Darran LLC and Oman Heritage Gallery, vied with the first class hotel for the honours in the tourism promoter category.
'We have worked hard at creating this image. What makes us even more proud is the fact that we are relatively new to the Omani market and this is only the beginning of our work to promote tourism in this beautiful country,' said Torbjörn Bodin, General Manager.
The hotel secured third place in the 'Best Companies to Work with in Muscat' in 2002 and a restaurant award for the 'Best Steakhouse' went to the hotel's Al Tajin Grill Restaurant.
'2002 has been a very good year, and we have been recognised for our employee satisfaction, dining choices and now as the best Tourism Promoter,' said Bodin. 'Our focus on all aspects of promoting tourism and customer satisfaction, including responsible business, has given us an edge and paid off.'
Each of the award categories in the year 2002 programme not only judged applicants on their financial growth achievements, but also on flair, innovation, originality and employment creation.
The other categories in which awards were presented were Investment Project, Small/ Medium Enterprise, Public Sector Initiative, Exporter of the Year, the Flame of Excellence and Young Entrepreneur of the Year.
