GEMS adds three Qatar schools to growing education management portfolio

Global Education Management Systems GEMS, an education management consultancy and systems provider, recently concluded contracts to manage and operate three additional private schools in Qatar, bringing the number of GEMS managed schools in the country to five.

The new contracts include the development of two new schools owned by the Qatar-based Taleb Group: a new British curriculum all-girls school and an Indian curriculum day-boarding school, both scheduled to open to students in 2004.

The third contract involves GEMS assuming the operation and management - effective September 2003 - of the already established RasGas Qatargas Al Khor International School, British stream, which offers a British academic curriculum.

The Al Khor International School will be the second RasGas Qatargas Al Khor Community school to be managed by GEMS.

"We have been very pleased with the results and operation of our Indian stream school since GEMS became our education management partner early in 2002," said Murray Parkes, Education Director, Al Khor Housing Community. "Given its educational expertise and solid track record, we are confident that GEMS' experience and professionalism will be equally successful with our British school," added Parkes.

Hugh MacPherson, GEMS Chief Operating Officer, said: "Qatar is developing into one of the region's leading knowledge-based economies, and GEMS, with our holistic, forward-looking ethos, is proud to play a part in providing high quality education, ultimately contributing to the nation's future."
