Students of the Abu Dhabi Women's College (ADWC) benefited from a detailed training session outlining the opportunities and challenges of e-commerce, when they visited the Etisalat Data Center recently.

Hosted by Comtrust, the e-solutions business unit of Etisalat, the seminar highlighted issues pertaining to online security, dedicated e-hosting and online payment transactions.

"This visit motivates our students by giving them direct contact with experts at Comtrust and helps them appreciate that the projects in their e-commerce courses reflect real challenges facing business in the UAE," said John Sing, Business Supervisor, ADWC.

The students also had the opportunity to see many of these business parameters in action, when they were also given a tour of the hosting facilities at the Etisalat Data Center.

Ahmad Abdul Karim Julfar, General Manager, Comtrust commented, "As the premier provider of e-solutions in the Middle East, we recognize the future of this industry lies in the hands of some of the students we have met. With this in mind it is imperative that we provide them with skills and experiences, which will help them establish a successful career in information technology. The focus of these seminars is to ensure that tomorrow's IT leaders, can see at first hand, the requirements and business considerations of e-business in the Middle East today. "

The seminars, presented by some of Comtrust's most experienced IT professionals, gave a broad base in some of the key issues that are facing organizations implementing e-business strategies throughout the Middle East. Central to this understanding, is the role of online security, which provides a safe and secure environment for conducing business via the web. The students gained knowledge in the complexities and benefits of identification and authorization technologies, such as the industry standard Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and smart card solutions.

Additionally, students were given a detailed brief on the business benefits of dedicated e-hosting, which allows organizations to outsource their IT and Internet requirements to companies with the expertise and facilities to manage applications on a daily basis. Comtrust is the leading provider of e-hosting solutions in the region, and has invested heavily in the necessary infrastructure and workforce to offer a world- class end-to-end solution. With this experience, Comtrust spokespeople provided a vast array of key solutions and components to the students, allowing them to fully understand the business benefits of IT outsourcing - namely a convenient and experienced resource, and a reduction in running costs.

Mr. Julfar continued, "The courses provided at the Abu Dhabi Women's College are now producing some top quality graduates, ensuring a constant source of well-educated professionals to the IT community. Hopefully, the additional seminars and visit program Comtrust is offering, gives students the opportunity to put some of the theory they have learnt into a practical sense, by observing it in a 'live' environment."
